August 2026 DOTM Camden Airport (YSCN)
This month we are headed to the land down under, or the the people that live there, the top of the earth. This airport started as just as grazing fields and racetrack in the 1900's when a filming company decided to use the property to shoot the 1921 B&W movie Silks and Saddles. By 1935 the owners owned several aircraft which they stored in a shed on the property. The family then started a flying school in 1938. As World War 2 approached, like many other airports, the military took over operations at the field. Today it is owned by a private company and is used mostly for flight training. Along with other general aviation there is also glider training and hot air balloons.
August 2026 HDOTM T. A. Moulton Barn (MEC3)
This mouth's HDOTM takes us to Moose, WY. YES, there is a place called Moose and I didn't just make that up. You will be flying to T. A. Moulton's barn inside the Grand Teton National Park. After long negotiations with the US National Parks, we have finally been given special permission to land at the historical site for a rare photoshoot. You will need to pick up one of Mirage's Helicopters and a photo crew from Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport (KDIJ) and fly them to the barn.
The barn sits inside the Grand Teton National Park is one of the most famous and photographed barns. Make sure you land at the right barn, just north of T. A. Moulton barn is the John Moulton Barn. Make sure to land at the right barn because if you happen to land at the wrong one, this will cause heavy fines to Mirage.
Once you research where your landing location is, you will have two options to get there. The mountain range between KDIJ and the barn is about 14,000 feet. You can try to fly over the mountain range and snake your way thru or fly south from KDIG and then east thru the Teton Pass. Direct is about 20nm and if you decide to take the Teton Pass route it is about 37nm.
