I hope everyone had a good vacation and use that time to recharge so we’re ready to tackle 2026. This year, we’ll provide you only with the one airport so you’ll have to find your way to it. Try to keep the flight around 100nm give or take if you can.
For this year first Destination, we’re going to CDW2 (Baddeck, Nova Scotia Canada)
The Baddeck area of Nova Scotia is historically significant as the birthplace of Canadian aviation, where the first powered flight in Canada took place. However, the current aerodrome (CDW2) is a small, private facility.
On February 23, 1909, J.A.D. McCurdy piloted the "Silver Dart," the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to fly in Canada and the British Empire, off the ice of the Bras d'Or Lake at Baddeck.
Alexander Graham Bell and his associates (the Aerial Experiment Association) founded the Canadian Aerodrome Company in Baddeck, the first commercial aircraft manufacturer in the British Empire, producing early aircraft like the Baddeck No. 1 and Baddeck No. 2.
For the HDoTM, at the end of January, Formula 1 teams are having their Private pre-season test at the Barcelona race track in Spain.
Let’s try to land on the track’s helipad and catch some pictures of the new 2026 cars.
Takeoff from LEBL and fly N-E and you should fly over the track (just shy of 19nm)
